From Panic to Power: How Red Light Therapy Supported My Young Son’s Healing After Stitches
5 year old child being treated at Enlighten Red Light Therapy Center in Sacramento, CA after head laceration and stitches.
From Panic to Power: How Red Light Therapy Supported My Young Son’s Healing After Stitches
As a parent, there are moments that stop your heart—and this was one of them.
What started as a normal day quickly turned into my 5-year-old son’s first major injury and first trip to the ER. Accidents can happen in an instant, and this one did. He hit his head on the side of a metal park bench, and I saw the entire thing unfold. He immediately began to panic—and if I’m being honest, so did I. Internally, I was freaking out. Externally, I did my best to stay calm for him.
As we made our way to the hospital, my mind was racing. I was worried about his pain, the possibility of a concussion, the risk of infection, and—like many parents would—how this might scar, both physically and emotionally. A forehead injury feels especially significant when it comes to healing and long-term appearance.
When Accidents Happen, Parents Go Into Protection Mode
If you’ve ever experienced something like this with your child, you know the feeling. The adrenaline, the fear, the unknown—it all hits at once. As both a mom and a wellness professional, I knew I wanted to support his healing in every way I could—not just in the moment, but in the days that followed.
Turning to a Natural, Supportive Healing Tool
Once we were done at the Emergency Room, I turned to something I trust deeply in my professional life: Red Light Therapy.
Red light therapy is a non-invasive, drug-free way to support the body’s natural healing process. It uses specific wavelengths of light to help the body repair and regenerate at a cellular level.
Over the years as a Practitioner at Enlighten I have helped many children heal from injury. I’ve seen the benefits in my work—but this time, it was personal.
Why I Chose Red Light Therapy for My Son
After an injury like this, the body has a lot to process. My goal was to support his system in a gentle, effective way. I chose Red Light Therapy to help:
Accelerate the healing of his wound
Reduce inflammation
Ease pain and discomfort
Support healthy skin recovery and minimize scarring
Calm his nervous system after a traumatic experience
Reduce the need for pharmaceutical pain relief
His First Session: From Fear to Confidence
What surprised me most was how excited he was.
He’s been around our wellness space his whole life. He has often climbed onto the massage table, put on the goggles and headphones, and pretended to “snore” like he was in a session. This time, he was genuinely excited that it was his turn.
He laid down comfortably while I set everything up for him. I chose not to have him wear headphones so he could talk to me and let me know how he was feeling throughout the session. Instead, he listened to some of his favorite songs.
He liked knowing that Mama was on one side and his Papa was on the other. At one point, he asked to hold our hands. After a couple of minutes, he let go and said he didn’t need to anymore.
Then he said something that really stayed with me:
“I can feel it working. It makes me feel better.”
By the end of the session, his entire energy had shifted.
He stood up, smiled, and said:
“I have superpowers now. The light is going to help me run faster.”
Even more incredible—he said he felt no pain after his first session.
Since then, he’s been genuinely excited to come back for follow-up sessions.

As parents, we want to do everything we can to help our child heal—not just physically, but emotionally too.
Red Light Therapy offers a gentle, supportive option that works with the body, not against it. For children who have experienced injuries, stitches, or inflammation, it can be a calming and empowering part of their recovery journey.
Safety at Enlighten Red Light Therapy
At Enlighten Red Light Therapy, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for clients of all ages.
We have no age restrictions for Red Light Therapy sessions
Parental permission is required for all clients under 18 and there must be a medical need

Our goal is to ensure every child feels comfortable, supported, and at ease.
A Responsible Approach to Healing
Red Light Therapy is a powerful complementary wellness tool, but it is not a replacement for medical care.
We always recommend:
Following your healthcare provider’s guidance
Proper wound care and aftercare instructions
This approach works best when integrated thoughtfully into an overall healing plan.
From Fear to “Superpowers”
What started as one of the scariest moments as a parent turned into something unexpectedly empowering.
Watching my son move from fear and pain to confidence—and even declaring he had “superpowers”—was something I’ll never forget.
I’m incredibly grateful to have access to tools that support healing in a gentle, natural way—and even more grateful to see that impact through the eyes of my child.
If You’re Navigating Your Child’s Healing Journey
If your child is recovering from an injury and you’re looking for supportive, non-invasive options to help them heal, we’re here to help guide you.
Your child’s comfort, healing, and peace of mind matter—and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
What the Research Shows for Children Specifically
This is where I want to be precise, because the honest question is: has this actually been studied in kids?
It has. More than most people realize.
In 2025, a randomized controlled trial in the Journal of Lasers in Medical Sciences applied low-level laser therapy to donor site wounds in children recovering from third-degree burns, one of the most demanding wound-healing environments in pediatric medicine. The result was clear: LLLT considerably enhanced healing compared to standard care, with measurable improvements in tissue regeneration and pain reduction. Third-degree burns. In children. In a controlled trial.
That is not the fringe. That is the kind of evidence that earns publication in a peer-reviewed medical journal.
The safety data matters just as much.
Randomized sham-controlled trials involving children as young as two years old consistently report no moderate or severe adverse effects from photobiomodulation. The Children's Oncology Group supports the use of PBM for preventing and treating oral mucositis in children undergoing chemotherapy. That organization holds a high bar for what it endorses in pediatric care. If PBM clears it, the safety profile for healthy children in a therapeutic setting is well-established.
The applications reach further than wound healing. Randomized trials in children with autism spectrum disorder have shown reductions in symptom severity and improvements in sleep. Children with spastic cerebral palsy have shown measurable decreases in muscle spasticity. In pediatric dentistry, PBM has outperformed topical anesthetics for reducing pain and anxiety before injection. These aren't isolated findings. They represent converging evidence across multiple medical disciplines, published in reputable journals, and applied in clinical settings around the world.
Why This Is Relevant to Your Family
If you're a parent or a grandparent, you probably came to Enlighten for Red Light Therapy for yourself. Chronic pain, inflammation, fatigue, recovery from something your body hasn't fully resolved. The research on adults is well-documented, and those are exactly the right reasons to come in.
But the conversation doesn't have to stop there.
What our son’s accident clarified for us, not as a business owners but as parents, is that Red Light Therapy belongs in a family's understanding of recovery, not just an individual's. When something acute happens and conventional care has done its job but the healing still has miles to go, there is a tool with solid research behind it, one that is non-invasive and non-pharmaceutical, that can carry some of that load. For adults. And for kids.
Our son is healing well. The wound is closing cleanly. We'll continue short sessions until the tissue is fully regenerated. I'm not reporting a miracle. I'm reporting what the evidence supports and what we're seeing: a body doing its job with some extra help.
The Door Is Open
If you're sitting with questions after reading this, that's exactly where you should be. Good questions deserve straight answers.
Whether you're thinking about your own healing or wondering what Red Light Therapy might do for someone else in your family, we're a conversation away. Come in, tell us what's going on, and we'll give you a straight answer about whether what we offer fits what you need.
If you've never been in, your first experience is $39. It includes a consultation, a 30-minute full body and face Red Light Therapy session and (if appropriate) 10 minutes of whole body vibration. It's a complete introduction to what we do and how it feels.
Enlighten Red Light Therapy Center is at 2636 Fulton Ave in Sacramento. We're by appointment only. Reach us at 916-300-0916 or at enlighten@redlighttherapycenter.com. We'd be glad to see you.
